Cleveland Harbor Ice Covered Lighthouses

West Pierhead Light

I traveled to Cleveland, Ohio for Christmas and had an opportunity to photograph the frozen Cleveland Harbor lighthouses covered in ice. The two lighthouses sit on the ends of breakwaters which protect the harbor from the waves of Lake Erie. The larger of the two lighthouses is the West Pierhead Light, located on the west breakwater, while the East Pierhead light sits on the breakwater to the east of the entrance to the harbor.

Both lighthouses, as well as other fixed objects in the area, were encased in layers of ice by crashing waves in frigid air temperatures during mid-December.
