Cormorants perch on the railings of the Old Orchard Shoal Lighthouse, located in Lower New York Bay approximately 2 miles southeast of Great Kills Harbor, Staten Island. This lighthouse was destroyed by the storm surge of Hurricane Sandy in October, 2012.
